Today weโre going to talk about what causes stomach growling? Is it from hunger, or what exactly is it?
You may have stomach sounds or stomach growling when youโre hungry, but hunger is not whatโs causing it. Something called the migrating motor complex is what causes stomach growling. This is a certain housekeeping condition in your body where itโs cleaning out debris (extra food particles).
One really important function of the migrating motor complex is that it can prevent SIBO. SIBO is a condition where you have too much bacteria in your small intestine. The majority of bacteria should be in the large intestine. When bacteria get into the small intestine, youโll start to be robbed of nutrients. You could also start to experience a lot of bloating from fermentation going on in your small intestine.
When you have SIBO, you can have a lot of stomach growling and stomach sounds going on because your body is trying to clean out the small intestine, and it canโt.
How to stop stomach growling:
โข Eating (but if you have SIBO eating could increase bloating)
โข Increase bile salts
โข Decrease stress
โข Fix SIBO (increase bile and take betaine hydrochloride)
โข Do intermittent fasting

Substance P (SP) is an undecapeptide (a peptide composed of a chain of 11 amino acid residues) member of the tachykinin neuropeptide family. It is a neuropeptide, acting as a neurotransmitter and as a neuromodulator. The original discovery of Substance P (SP) was in 1931 by Ulf von Euler and John H. Gaddum as a tissue extract that caused an intestinal contraction in vitro. Its tissue distribution and biologic actions were further investigated over the following decades.
The endogenous receptor for substance P is neurokinin 1 receptor (NK1-receptor, NK1R) It belongs to the tachykinin receptor sub-family of GPCRs their neurokinin subtypes and neurokinin receptors that interact with SP have been reported as well. Amino acid residues that are responsible for the binding of SP and its antagonists are present in the extracellular loops and transmembrane regions of NK-1. Binding of SP to NK-1 results in internalization by the clathrin-dependent mechanism to the acidified endosomes where the complex disassociates. Subsequently, SP is degraded and NK-1 is re-expressed on the cell surface
